I ABSOLUTELY love being a lifestyle photographer. Looking back over the last few months with my clients and all the changes that I have gone through, I'm just fealing blessed! About 90⁒ of the portraits I take are lifestyle portraits everyone once in awhile you will see portrait style. A client I had awhile ago said she like reading my blog but was wondering why I didn't tell more personal things about myself, so here it goes what goes on, behind the scenes. I'll limited to just a few memories or I might be here for awhile :)
1. Just wanting a smile.
Taken senior photos and no way were they going to smile so I told them we were going to do some serious photos and to try and not smile. Yup that worked, the rest of the session was great, lots of laughing we actually had to sit for a few minutes just get ahold of ourselves.
2. Unexpectedly relaxing a client.
Taking most of my portrait outdoors you just never know what will happen. After taken a couples session she told me that she was so nervous during the first few photos till I nearly lost control with a bug that was on my foot. Letting a screech out loud was probably not the best way to go. But after that she said she felt like we were friends forever.
3. Out of reach.
Everyone once in awhile you will find a client that wants something totally out of reach. Yup, and I was lucky enough to find that client. The only thing us back was a raging river. So over the river we go with no water proof camera bag and no life jacket just my client holding me up as we crossed on top of uneven rocks. The things we do just to get the photo that our client wanted was so worth it.
4. Yup I cried.
I have never cried on a photo shoot! Seriously who does that! That would be me. I hear about other photographers saying that they chose not to do their kids senior portraits, I often though why not? But when you have a son who's graduation from High School and you think I got this and each photo you take is so meaningful and special. Yes I got really misty eyed and took hundreds of photos, I totally understood why they chose not to. I wouldn't trade those moments for anything.
To me being a lifestyle photographer isn't just shooting a session and sending the portraits to my client and then that's the end. It's about making memories for my clients. I want them to look back at their photos that they have displayed or in an album that they leave for show. I want them to remember how fun it was and all the things that happened. Each client is different and capturing those moments that their looking for is the best.
